Miss Texas' Outstanding Teen 2006 - Kendall Morris

The morning after I was crowned Miss Texas’ Outstanding Teen I was suddenly faced with a new responsibility. That responsibility was to represent Texas as a role model. I began my new job with a heart full of determination, passion, and motivation.

The first month of “my year” was spent preparing for Miss America’s Outstanding Teen. It was the fastest month of my entire life. Most of my time was focused on working out, filling out paperwork (which there is a LOT of!), and practicing my talent. Every weekend between Miss Texas’ Outstanding Teen and the time I left for Miss America’s Outstanding Teen I spent with the MTOT Director, Lydia Hall, in Fort Worth. We crammed as many appointments and as much shopping as possible into the two and one- half days of the week we were together. I am very thankful to the Miss Texas Organization for providing me with everything that I needed for the national competition.

After a month of hard work, it was finally time to fly to Florida. I had a marvelous time meeting all the girls from different states. Some of the fun places that we got to go during the week were Cypress Gardens, Wet N’ Wild, Bloomingdale’s, Medieval Times, and Give Kids the World. My favorite day trip was going to the Teddy Geiger concert and getting to meet him afterwards. Before the week began, I had never met a real celebrity. By the time the week was over, I had met three: Teddy Geiger, Joey Fatone, and Miss America, Jennifer Berry. Our days were packed with rehearsals, appearances, and competition. The average amount of sleep that a contestant would get each night was about 4 hours. I had such a wonderful time with each girl and made such wonderful memories. Before I flew out to Orlando, Meghan Miller told me to try to find at least one girl who would be a bridesmaid at my wedding. Well, I now have a bridesmaid, but no groom!

I’ve returned from Miss America’s Outstanding Teen. Even though I missed the first seven days of my sophomore year, I have settled nicely back into school. I am even beginning to make appearances on the weekends. I am looking forward to the upcoming local pageants and the beginning of the new pageant year. I would like to wish all the new and returning contestants the best of luck as you pursue and fulfill your hopes and dreams!

Love,
Kendall Morris
